It is the largest event of its type in the country and attracts boats and competitors from all over New Zealand as well as Australia. Events throughout the weekend include family class, powerboat sprints, jetski and thundercat races. Boats and skiers travel at speeds over 100 MPH (160 KPH) up and down the Waikato River throughout the weekend.
Piha is known for its huge west coast swells and the boats and crews are always amped for this day. Racing is always super exciting with plenty of boats flipping and crashing through the huge surf. Being the second to last race, the boat crews put everything on the line to win and better their positions in the overall ranks, so racing is guaranteed to be at its best. Make sure you don't miss this race day.
