KING OF THE CAPE

90 Mile Beach  |  28 March 2010, 00:00am
Type: Endurance
High tide: 08:45

King of the Cape as its known to be called is the first and only Surfhaul race of the season. Its a fantastic race for both spectators and crews.

The boats race from Ahipara all the way up 90 Mile Beach within the sufline. Boats have mandatory check points up the beach and after 90 kms, have a mandatory stop and re-fuel for 30 minutes before turning around and racing back down to Ahipara.

The boats all have support crews which follow them up 90 Mile Beach checking that everything is ok and making sure they remain up the right way.

The race is fantastic for Spectators, as cars are allowed to drive up the beach and follow all the boats. Because they can often only be a few metres from the shore, viewing is always at a top level. A race day not to be missed.
