What a beautiful day! The sun came out for the day’s racing at Waipu Cove, and there was a good crowd of spectators on the beach. There water was calm, making for quick speeds for the boats and buoys that stayed on course (for once!). Once again the kids (and some adults!) were kept entertained throughout the day trying to catch frisbees and lollipop scrambles thanks to our sponsor Global Security, and whilst the day ran very smoothly there was still plenty of excitement with some very close finishes…
Heat 2 saw Henderson Demolition taking first place after holding a good lead throughout and a close finish by B & D Racing and DM Security for 6th & 7th positions, whilst Heat 3 saw Tranzcivil finish first after a very close race with Henderson Demolition (and Quin Buildings taking a quick spin just before the final lap and losing 6th position to DM Security).
Henderson Demolition and Quin Buildings spent Heat 8 fighting for first position, with Henderson Demolition passing Quin Buildings at the last buoy on the final lap to take first place, while Little Devil was disqualified from the heat for driving through the bunting at the finish line.
Henderson Demolition clearly suited racing in these conditions, taking first place in Heat 9 after staying in the lead throughout, whilst DM Security & Quin Buildings were left sprinting up the beach to determine 4th & 5th positions, and there was a very close finish between Plumbquick and B & D Racing for 6th & 7th positions.
Conditions were also ideal for Smuggler Marine, who came first place in Heat 10 after holding a clear lead throughout the race. Incon Automation, Marlite NZ Ltd and Loaded spent the heat in close battle for 2nd, 3rd & 4th positions, with Incon Automation holding their position for 2nd and Loaded coming 3rd after managing to overtake Marlite NZ Ltd in the final lap.
Henderson Demolition, Smuggler Marine, Marlite NZ Ltd, OPP White, Quin Buildings, Incon Automation, Little Devil, Loaded, ULTIMA and Plumbquick all lined up for the final race of the day. Smuggler Marine finished first, closely followed by Henderson Demolition in 2nd and OPP White in 3rd. Although they won the final race, Smuggler Marine just lost out to Henderson Demolition for top placing for the day, with Incon Automation finishing third overall.
Thanks go out to Global Security for their sponsorship, Steve & Relda for hosting the prizegiving and all the crews for such an excellent day’s racing!
