SUMMARY

A sunny day and a beautiful beach greeted competitors at Waimarama in Hawkes Bay for round 2 of the WGTN club racing.

It was the first time Thundercats have raced at Waimarama and it proved a good trial run for Waimarama Beach Day early next year. A slight wind and some chop kept racing interesting with a few good sets leaving some of the crews a bit worse for wear. Add new crews into the mix and watch the chaos as teams fall out of boats, buoys become targets rather than markers and every co-pilot face planted at least once…some more than once. We did however manage to get through the day without incident thanks to our RD and Marshals (Jo, Pip, Tim, Paul, Oggy).

The messy conditions made for some great racing and the spectators were getting right into it. Every lap saw multiple position changes in some of the fastest racing WGTN branch has seen, way faster than anything the Auckland club has ever experienced. Despite some slight engine trouble Quinn’s Builders took out the win with some very fast, consistent racing, second were the boys from Demon Energy with a tie for 3rd place between Paintballshop and Get Funkd. Overall it was a great location and an entertaining days racing. Huge thanks to Michelle and the Quinn’s team for putting the event together.

Our next club event is Oriental Bay charity day on Sat 12 Dec 09.
