SUMMARY

Nineteen boats entered for the second round of the Thundercat club champs at Mangawhai.

Surf of 1m made up for the initial overcast weather and racing commenced at 11.30 after some difficulty securing the buoys within the surf line.

The first few heats were relatively uneventful except for race stoppages provoked by buoys being purchased (run over) and thereby sinking or breaking loose.

A torrential downpour brought a halt to the racing until Race Director Aran Fifield declared from under the shelter of the tent that “ any competitors for the next race not on the start line would be disqualified”. The green flag was rapidly deployed by starter Dave Pringle who was obviously also keen to return to the tent.

The subsequent races and rise in the surf sets resulted in the first flip of the day from Smuggler on a wave that appeared to be taller than the boat followed by Plumbquick who also popped a pontoon.
Last of the day to flip was Crashpad who also tossed out Copilot Perrin Reilly.

The day finished after 4 rounds and no final due to the adverse weather with prizegiving and a BBQ back at Tony Vercauterens house.
Winner of the day was the Line 7 boat, second Jungle Coffee and third Blackpepper.
