SUMMARY

The first club day of the Wellington season got off to a great start...eventually. The first race was restarted numerous times after the coey from Get funkd evacuated his boat rounding W buoy. Following the trend both pilot and co-pilot of Lasermark went for a swim in the same spot shortly after the re-start. We did actually finish a race with Get Funkd coming out of nowhere for the first win of the season.

The day was more about training and working on boat setup rather than just racing and almost every crew spent the bulk of their time swapping parts and tweaking setups to get set for the upcoming season. With no points the following races saw race rules more than a little bent as crews battled to get round the course as quickly as possible, some crews did take advantage of the no penalties a little more than others, very entertaining especially for spectators. Even with the amount of rookies, the bumper boats, the swell, people falling out of boats and almost every co-pilot eating sand on the finish line we saw no flips and no incidents. The race directors were flexible with the format allowing for a fun productive day which has set the tone for the season to come. Special mention must go to the TVC team who came all the way from Hawkes Bay only to break down in the first race and not get their boat fixed shortly after the last race.

Our next race is the 100th Jubilee of surf life saving NZ in Wanganui. The jubilee and our racing starts at midday. Will be a great day, see you all there.
