SUMMARY

The last round of the Wellington club series was held at Titahi Bay on the weekend. Once again Wellington put on a sunny and still day as it has almost every round with the exceptions of when the Aucklander's turn up! Racing was exciting with 3 relatively new crews in the mix. Whilst there were no flips there were a number of close calls with the boys from Yellow Thunder going for a swim just trying to get to the start line. Pretty much every buoy was run over, most twice but with excuses like ‘didn’t you see the mermaid we had to doge’ it was hard to penalise.

Undoubtedly the spectator highlights were the co-pilot races held at the end of the day where drivers and their coey switch spots in the boat for absolute mayhem racing. Well done to Demon Blue who proved the coey could really drive, so fast they actually would have lapped Get Funkd had they not driven straight into the back of them, mounting them to the point that no part of their own boat was touching the water.

Overall winner was TBC who dominated the day, even with a flat hijacker. 2nd was Demon Energy Blue with the new crew from Yellow Thunder rounding out the top 3. This finishes the Wellington Club Surfcross racing with Demon Energy Blue taking out the club trophy, TBC in 2nd for the season and Demon Energy Red landing in third. Wellington Cup Day went to Quin Builders and that leaves one medal to be won… Winter Thunder on Taupo in August! Some cool pics of Titahi Bay are available at http://sportshotz.co.nz/#/gallery/titahi-bay-17-4-10/ so go take look. Cheers for the great season everyone!!
