SUMMARY

The first event for the 09/10 season kicked off in heavy rain at Orewa Beach on Saturday September 12. Fourteen boats entered and were ready to go home or to the bar at 9.30am in view of the heavy rain. However in true Thundercat fashion racing commenced early at 10.30am.

The rain abated for the racing and a messy ½ metre chop meant race positions constantly changed throughout the 5 lap heats. Racing was generally without incident except for PBS who on their last lap took out D buoy thereby incurring the buoy repair for $150 plus the $1000 to rebuild their motor after the flip and subsequent seizing.(expensive start to the season) They were however proud recipients of the flipper award for the day.

Racing concluded by 2pm as the heavy rain again commenced whereby everyone adjourned to the hospitality of the Orewa Surf club bar for prizegiving. Winner for the day was Jungle Coffee followed by Smuggler Marine and Plumbquick.
