With injuries and broken boats taking over the club we saw only a 6 boat turnout for Waimarama 2010. However less boats does not mean less action. The first incident went to Demon Energy who finished the second heat with a large hole in the nose cone and a bent engine mount ending their day early. Next we saw a flip from TBC after they decided to switch co-driver and pilot for a heat. A quick re-start and we saw the second flip of the day which went to Lasermark just as they were in the hunt for the lead, at this point the RD called a technical finish with the boys from Charged taking the win. The next heat saw TBC upside down again, this time as they rolled around W buoy. When we thought there were no boats left to have something go wrong 8&9 Ball had to pull out mid race due to 'technical' fuel systems issues meaning we had only 2 boats who actually managed to complete every race. To be fair though these were the 2 fastest and most consistent boats all day.
Between incidents we managed to fit some heats in. The racing that did take place was fast and rough, a small but very messy swell hammered boats and bodies as crews battled it out for the Cup. Quin Builders took out the overall win although the new team from Charged came from nowhere to give them a run for their money. Beautiful beach, hot sun, fast boats and cold drinks made for a great day overall. Many thanks to our stand in RD Vinnie Lundon and the marshals for their efforts. Look forward to seeing everyone again at Otaki.
